Almost Happy

LINK to hear tracks from his jazz/piano
CD: August Ocean Overture

A ditty I suppose, but I've got to have something to sing while walking; continuing to work on more serious projects(see my blog). Will I ever rise above this deep water?

Almost Happy

1. I’m looking for a place where I can be by myself.

Some empty beach where the wind blows free.

A few birds, clouds, waves breaking endlessly…

Since there’s no hope of meeting you.

(refrains)

Almost happy, almost free,

Out here the waves roll up endlessly

I don’t need no wireless or MP3

That’s what it’s like when you’re like me.

No digital this or digital that,

Out here you can sing in tune,

Or you can sing flat—

If I do any surfing, it won’t be on the net,

That’s what I like about being me.

2. Almost happy, lonely, almost free

There’s nothing lonelier then being a face in the crowd

As long as there’s no company, an empty beach will do

Now that there’s no chance of meeting you.

(refrain)

No digital this or digital that,

Out here you can sing in tune,

Or you can sing flat—

Almost happy, almost free,

Out here the waves roll up endlessly

I don’t need no wireless or MP3

That’s what it’s like when you’re like me.

(Composed singing while walking the beach at Daytona and Wilbur-by-the-Sea on a cloudy, windy, day)

To Build A Boat

To Build A Boat
Lyrics only, although I had a tune in my head that was similar to a Negro call & response hymn

1.
I’m gonna build a boat,
Going to sail it across the sea, To carry you home to me I’m gonna build a boat, To bring you back to me. [ ./. ] repeat

2.
I’m gonna build a boat, To sail the ocean blue. That’s what I’m going to do— Sail me right back to you—[ ./. ] optional repeat Even a little boat will do, That can sail an even keel one point true. Row her down the River of Joy (repeat) Bring her ‘round the windward shore. We’re gonna sail her ever-more, I’m gonna build a wooden boat To sail her to the Farther Shore [ .//. ] Sail her home to the Farther Shore — (several repeats of last line)
